Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Womack Hill Fire Tower is in Choctaw County, Alabama, and the Alabama Forestry Commission administers it.1 The register describes a 100-foot Aermotor MC-39 tower with a 7-by-7-foot cab, and says it was constructed in 1951.1

A local blog gives the same 1951 build year and notes that some maps call the tower the Daniels Fire Tower.2 The blog lists the register numbers as US 869 and AL 48. The register gives US 869 and AL 47 for the same tower.1,2

The register accepted the tower on January 18, 2010, on the nomination of Thomas Kaufmann.1

We found no readable source on who staffed the tower, what fires it watched, or what condition it is in today. The sources do not say whether the public can visit or climb it, so treat access as unknown and check with the Alabama Forestry Commission before going.
