What you see from the cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

Downloads about 3.5 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Odart Mountain Lookout stands on an 8,531-foot peak on the White Mountain Apache reservation in Apache County, Arizona.1 According to the National Historic Lookout Register, the tower dates from 1934 and is a steel Aermotor MC-39 with a 7-by-7-foot cab. It rises 82 feet above the summit.1

The White Mountain Apache Agency administers the lookout and is also listed as its cooperator.1 The register entry was made on January 31, 2002, under the numbers US 463 and AZ 48.1 The sources I could read do not say who staffed it over the years or whether it has had any fires.1,2

The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Arizona list still shows Odart Mountain as a standing tower.2 I found no record that the cab was moved, rebuilt, or taken down.1,2

The sources I could read say nothing about visiting, and the register gives no visiting rule.1,2
