Story

Researched 8 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The O'Haco Lookout stands on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Coconino County, Arizona, at 7,640 feet.1 The National Historic Lookout Register lists its build year as 1966 and describes a 100-foot Aermotor 1040 tower with a 7-by-7-foot metal cab.1 Instead of a floor hatch, the tower has a side door that a catwalk on one side reaches.1

The Register accepted the lookout on September 2, 2009, as US 828, AZ 75. It names the U.S. Forest Service as administrator and the Black Mesa Ranger District as cooperator.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Arizona list shows the tower as standing under the same register number.2

The sources I read say nothing about who built the tower, who staffed it, or which fires it watched. They do not describe its condition beyond the standing label on the Association's list, and they do not say whether the public can visit or climb it.1,2 Anyone planning a trip should check with the Black Mesa Ranger District first.
