View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Medicine Mountain sits in Siskiyou County, inside what is now the Marble Mountain Wilderness.1 The register says the site was chosen in 1932 to replace Marble Mountain, and that a ground cabin built to California Region 5 Plan BC-301 went up in 1934.1
The Siskiyou News reported in June 1934 that a lookout house would be started the next week, with materials brought in by pack train on a two-day trip.2 The Forest Lookouts page also quotes a Klamath National Forest chronology saying a CCC crew from Orleans Camp built it in 1935, so the 1934 date and that account differ.1,2
A 1952 survey description, quoted on the same page, calls the house a standard Forest Service single-story type, about 14 feet on a side and about 15 feet tall.2
The register says the lookout was manned as required, apart from 1955 to 1960, when it had full-time staff.1 In June 1964 the Blue Lake Advocate said one man had been its lookout for the last two summers.2
The register dates the lookout's dismantling to 1979 and says nothing is left on the site.1
The Six Rivers National Forest page says entry into the Marble Mountain Wilderness needs no wilderness permit, though state campfire permits are required.3 No source read describes the summit after the 1979 removal.
