Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Deer Park Fire Tower stands in Deer Park, an unincorporated community in Osceola County, Florida.1,2 The community sits off US 192, south of County Road 419.1 Its roots are in timber: George Washington Hopkins, from Michigan, started buying land in eastern Osceola and Brevard counties in 1895, and the community was set up to house workers at a logging and mill operation.3

The National Historic Lookout Register describes the tower as an Aermotor LS-40 and says the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services administers it.2 The register gives its elevation as 47 feet (14 m).2 The tower was registered on July 24, 2016 as US 1137, FL 20, with Robert Spear as nominator.2

I could not find a build year, height, staffing history or fire record for this tower in the sources I read. The Eastern lookouts page lists only its name and county.4 A Wikimedia Commons photo of the state's Deer Park Forestry Site is licensed for reuse, but its description does not confirm that the tower appears in it.5

No public access information turned up, so check with the state, which administers the tower, before you visit.2
