Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Yulee Forestry Tower is in Nassau County, Florida.1 The National Historic Lookout Register describes it as a 100-foot Aermotor LS-40 steel lookout tower, maintained by the Florida Department of Forestry.1
We found no build year for it. The Forest Lookouts page for the site lists it under the name Becker, with the words Rayonier Corp beside the county name.2 Rayonier, which is behind the Wildlight development, has a long timber history in Northeast Florida.3 The sources do not say whether the timber company owned the land, the tower or both.2,3
The Register shows the tower registered on May 22, 2022, as US 1578, FL 25, with Rocco Germani as nominator. It gives the elevation as 22 feet (7 metres).1 The 2022 listing is the latest record we found, so its present condition is unknown.1
Do not confuse it with the fire tower at the entrance to Wildlight's Garden District.3 The County Insider, a Nassau County publication, calls that tower a tribute to the county's forestry heritage, taking its inspiration from the older fire lookout towers in Florida.3
The Register page has no visit reports, staffing notes or access rules, so the sources do not say whether the public may visit or climb the tower.1 The Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, manages more than 1.2 million acres of state forests and handles wildfire prevention and suppression.4 That page does not say whether the agency runs this tower, so ask before you go.4
