Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

McDuffie Lookout stands in McDuffie County, Georgia, and the Georgia Forestry Commission administers it.1 The register describes it as an 82-foot Aermotor LS-40 galvanized tower with a steel cab, though it hedges, saying the tower appears to be that model.1

The register gives no build year.1 I found no source saying when the tower went up or who first used it.

The register notes two radio antennas and suggests the tower may serve as a repeater station.1 It also places the tower beside an active Georgia Forestry Commission office.1

The register lists the elevation at 519 feet (158 meters), while a Georgia towers list gives 512 feet.1,2 The register accepted the lookout on June 9, 2015, as US 1069, GA 18, on a nomination by Michael T. Finch, Jr.1

Neither source says who staffed the tower, which fires it watched, or whether the public can visit it. Because it stands beside a working office, do not assume you can go up it. Ask the Georgia Forestry Commission first.
