Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Thomas (Thomasville) Lookout Tower stands at the Georgia Forestry Commission office in Thomasville, in Thomas County, Georgia.1 The register gives its elevation as 294 feet (90 m).1 A Georgia tower list on tnlandforms.us gives 282 for the same coordinates and names no unit, so this story follows the register.2

The register gives the tower a build year of 1937.1 It says the model is uncertain, either an Aermotor LS-40 or an MC-39.1 It describes the tower as 90 feet high with a 7-by-7-by-10-foot steel cab, and notes that its stairs are relatively short, with more landings than most.1

The register rates the condition as fair to good and says the tower is probably manned as needed.1 It currently holds radio repeater gear.1 It was registered on March 27, 2014, on a nomination by Michael T. Finch, Jr.1

The register does not date its notes, so its statements about condition, staffing and radio equipment may be out of date. The sources do not say whether visitors may climb it or whether the public has access, so do not climb it without the Commission's permission.1
