View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.

Downloads about 3.9 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Club Point Lookout stood in the St. Joe National Forest, in Shoshone County, Idaho.1,2,3 In 1935 an L-4 cab was placed atop the site's easternmost point.2,3,4 The site sits at an elevation of 6,236 feet.3

The Idaho Fire Lookouts page files the site as a hike-in, so visitors had to walk in.3 The lookout was abandoned in 1953, and the two Club Point pages agree on both the 1935 and 1953 dates.2,3 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Idaho list classes it as a ground site rather than a tower, and marks it gone.1

No source I read describes what, if anything, remains at the site today, or whether the ground is open to the public. Anyone planning a trip should check with the St. Joe National Forest first.
