What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 4.1 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Dudley Peak Lookout stood in Kootenai County, about 13 miles west of Kellogg, on land in the Coeur d'Alene National Forest.1,2 Its builders put up a 30-foot pole tower with an L-4 cab in 1934.1,3
The Idaho Fire Lookouts site lists two names for its staff: a William Heard in 1941, cited to the Kellogg Evening News, and a William Hoard in 1944.2 The pages do not say whether they were the same man. Firelookout.com also gives Hoard for 1944.1
The sources disagree about how the tower came down. Firelookout.com says the tower was put up for public sale and taken down in 1950.1 The Forest Lookouts site and the Idaho Fire Lookouts site both say it was destroyed that year.2,3 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Idaho list marks the tower as gone.4
We found no source that describes what, if anything, remains on the peak today, or whether visitors can reach it. Anyone thinking of going up should check with the Forest Service first.
