View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Downloads about 4.1 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Eddy Peak is in Boundary County, about 10 miles east of Nordman.1,2 It was a 40-foot pole tower with an L-4 cab, named for Ranger Leslie E. Eddy.1,2

The sources disagree on when it went up. Two say the tower was built in 1941.1,2 The Forest Lookouts page says it was built in the 1930s with Civilian Conservation Corps labor.3

The Priest Lake Timber Protective Association ran the lookout.1,3 It had staff for just one week.1,2 It came down in 1959.1,2 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Idaho list marks it as gone.4

No source we read describes what remains of the tower or the site today. None covers access or who owns the site now, so check both before planning a visit.
