View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.8 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Grouse Point is a former lookout site in the Clearwater National Forest in Idaho.1 Firelookout.com lists an L-4 tower there for 1934, and says it burned that same year.1 The Forest Service's list of Clearwater lookouts places a Grouse Point L-4 tower six miles south of the Powell Ranger Station, and says it burned in 1934.2
The Idaho Fire Lookouts site says the Pete King Wildfire burned this tower.3 The Forest Service list also has a second Grouse Point, three miles north of the Lochsa Ranger Station.2,4 Firelookout.com dates that one to 1933, describes it as a 30-foot pole L-4 tower, and says the 1934 Pete King Fire burned it.4 A second Idaho Fire Lookouts page says it burned in the Pete King Fire too.5 Because both towers carry the Grouse Point name, check which one a source describes before you rely on it.
The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Idaho list marks this Grouse Point as gone.6
The Idaho Fire Lookouts page lists the site as a hike-in and says it burned, but it does not describe what remains.3 We found no source that describes the site today, so we cannot say whether any footings or other traces survive, or whether the public may visit.
