View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 4.3 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Honey Mountain's lookout stood about five miles south-southwest of Lakeview, in Bonner County, on the Coeur d'Alene National Forest, at 4,580 feet.1,2
The lookout was an L-4 cab, recorded for 1940.1,2,3
Firelookout.com says the cab was gone by 1961.1 Idaho Fire Lookouts gives 1961 as both destroyed and removed, and Forest Lookouts lists it as removed without a year, so it is unclear how it ended.2,3 The Idaho lookout list marks it as gone.4
Idaho Fire Lookouts lists the site as a hike-in. A post dated November 9, 2024 says its writers went up there and took photographs, but found no tie-downs, concrete piers, wires or trash, and said the spot showed no sign a lookout had ever stood there.2 No source says whether the site is open to the public.
