View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.8 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Lindroos Hill sits east of Mullan in Shoshone County, Idaho.1,2 A pole tower with an L-4 cab went up there in 1933.3,1 The tower was unusual in sitting low on the hillside instead of on a distant ridge, which let it look straight down on Mullan.4
Sources disagree on its height. Firelookout.com and Idaho Fire Lookouts give 25 feet, while the Weebly list gives 30.3,4,1
The site had two unusual features. Old U.S. Highway 10 passed right by it, so the site had more passing traffic than a typical lookout, and a gravity-fed spring farther up the hill supplied running water.4
Carl Hennings is named for 1934 and 1935, based on Wallace newspaper reports that Idaho Fire Lookouts cites.4 George Adams is listed for 1937.4 Idaho Fire Lookouts names George D. Howard for 1946, and both sites list Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Jensen for that year.3,4 Firelookout.com says staffing ended in 1953.3
In June 1953 the Kellogg Evening News reported the tower's pending removal.3 Forest Ranger J. E. Sanderson said, as the Spokesman-Review reported, that the station would not be used that year and would be dismantled because it was becoming unsafe. The picnic area around it was to be enlarged for public use.1
Both firelookout.com and Idaho Fire Lookouts record the tower as removed in 1955, while the Weebly list calls it destroyed that year.3,4,1
Interstate 90 now covers the site where the tower stood.3,4 No source describes what, if anything, remains on the ground, and none says whether the site is open to visitors today.3,4,1
