View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.6 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Rabbit Point, on the Nez Perce National Forest, carried a log cupola cabin at the south end of its ridge.1,2,3,4 Firelookout.com, Idaho Fire Lookouts and the Forest Service list all give 1930 as the build year.1,2,3
A Forest Lookouts list of Idaho County towers gives a camp at the site in the 1930s.4
Firelookout.com says the cabin was removed about 1950, and Idaho Fire Lookouts also lists it as removed.1,2 The Forest Service list instead says it was destroyed in 1950.3 The sources agree on the rough date but not on how the cabin ended. The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists the site as ground and gone.5
Firelookout.com says the site borders the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, and Idaho Fire Lookouts lists it as a hike-in site.1,2 No source describes what remains on the ridge today. A Forest Service history page counts 20 log cabin lookouts with cupolas on the Nez Perce forest and says only one remains.6
