View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.7 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Seven Mile Point lookout site sits at 4,851 feet in the Clearwater National Forest, about 15 miles northeast of Pierce in Shoshone County, Idaho.1,2
A 20-foot L-4 tower was built there in 1941.1,2
Idaho Fire Lookouts says Warren Yahr staffed the lookout in 1945 and mentions his book Smokechaser.2 Yahr's own page on the same website lists Bear Butte for 1945 to 1948 and does not mention Seven Mile Point, so the 1945 posting is not settled.3
The book, Smokechaser, was published in 1995, and its catalog record gives subject headings for fire lookout stations in the Clearwater National Forest.4
The site was destroyed in 1962.1,2
Idaho Fire Lookouts labels the site drive-up.2 No source we read describes what remains there today or whether the land is open to visitors, so check with the Clearwater National Forest before you go.
