View from the cab
What you see from the cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
The structure was moved. This view is from the position Firefinder shows for this record, at a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.8 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Sloans Creek Point, also called Sloans Point, stood in the Payette National Forest, 14 miles southeast of McCall, Idaho.1,2 The Register dates it to 1933 and says wagons brought in its materials.2 The lookout had a log cabin residence and a 72-foot Aermotor tower with a metal cab about seven feet square.2,3
Sources give different end dates for its staffing.2,3,4 The Register says staffing continued into the 1970s.2 A marker at the museum gives 1934 to 1970.4 Idaho Fire Lookouts lists the 1970s as the point it stopped being staffed.3
The log cabin was removed in 1994.2 In 2000, volunteers took the tower apart and rebuilt its cab and 10 feet of tower at the Central Idaho Historical Museum in McCall.2,3 Idaho Fire Lookouts gives 2008 as the year it joined the National Historic Lookout Register.3
Today the rebuilt lookout stands on the museum grounds in McCall.4 A McCall visitor listing names a cab and tower from Sloan Point among the museum's exhibits, while the Register describes the rebuilt part as the cab and 10 feet of tower.5,2 The museum says private tours of its grounds run through October 15, with at least three days' notice.6 No source we read says whether the cab can be entered, so ask the museum before you visit. No source describes what, if anything, remains at the original site today.
