View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 4.3 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The peak is listed at 5,585 feet in Shoshone County, on the Coeur d'Alene National Forest about 22 miles north of Wallace.1
The first entry for the site, dated 1931, calls it a camp rather than a cab.1,2 A lookout cab followed in 1934, built to the L-4 design.1,2 That design was a standard 14-by-14-foot building that Region 1 drew up in 1929.3
In early September 1936 the lookout was called in because rain and cool weather had lowered the danger of forest fires, according to a Spokane Chronicle item quoted on the Forest Lookouts site.2
The cab was destroyed in 1959.1,4,2 Idaho Fire Lookouts lists the site as a hike-in one.4
No source I read describes what remains at the site today, or whether the peak is open to visitors.
