View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 4.1 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Teepee Summit sits about 17 miles northwest of Kellogg, in Shoshone County, at 4,087 feet in the Coeur d'Alene National Forest.1,2
A log cabin went up a quarter mile northwest of the summit in 1933, and a 30-foot pole tower with an L-6 cab followed in 1934.1,2,3 Two patrol lookouts were also in the area, one half a mile north-northwest of the cabin and one a mile southeast on Teepee Peak.1,2
The tower was gone by 1950.1,2,3,4 Idaho Fire Lookouts files the site under "Removed."2
Idaho Fire Lookouts tags the site as drive-up, but its notes say reaching it was closer to bushwhacking than to hiking.2 The same notes also record No. 9 wire and three cement footings on the summit.2 No source describes the site today beyond those notes, or says whether it is open to visitors.
