Story

Researched 8 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Gordon Fire Tower stands in Beauregard Parish in southwestern Louisiana, near DeQuincy.1,2 The National Historic Lookout Register describes it as a 110-foot steel Aermotor tower with a metal cab measuring 7 by 7 feet.1 The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry built and maintains it.1,3

The register lists the tower as registered on September 1, 1999.1 It remains in use on days of very high fire danger, according to the register.1 Wikipedia's list of Louisiana towers gives the same tower as still standing, and notes that it is used on high wind days.2 The two descriptions differ. Neither was confirmed by an agency source in this research.

The sources reached here do not say when the tower was built, who first staffed it, or whether it has been moved or changed. No source describes whether the public may visit. Anyone planning a trip should ask the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry before going, since the register says the tower is still used on the highest fire-danger days.1
