Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Glen Lookout Tower stands in Alcorn County, in the northeastern part of the state.1 The National Historic Lookout Register describes it as a 100-foot Aermotor tower and gives its elevation as 602 feet (183 meters).1
The register does not say when the tower went up. It lists the build date as unknown.1 Forest Lookouts shows the tower only under Alcorn County, with no other detail.2 We found no record of who staffed the tower or of any fire it watched.
The Mississippi Forestry Commission administers the site, according to the register.1 The register spells the agency's name with a typo, "Commision." The commission's own website uses the correct spelling.1,3
The site has a house and a few outbuildings, and the register says the property seems to be out of use.1 Jason Johns nominated the tower, and it was registered on June 23, 2022, as US 1617, MS 13.1 We found no public access information. Anyone curious should ask the Forestry Commission before going near the site.
