Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Glenville Lookout Tower is in Panola County, Mississippi. The National Historic Lookout Register gives its elevation as 511 feet (156 meters) and describes it as a standard 100-foot Aermotor.1 OpenStreetMap marks the same spot as an observation tower and gives its elevation as 154 meters, about two meters below the register's figure.2

The register gives no build date and lists the build as unknown.1 It names the Mississippi Forestry Commission as administrator.1 We found no account of who staffed the tower or of any fire it watched.

The register says the tower sits among pines. It also warns that the vegetation around the base makes the site next to impossible to reach in spring and summer.1 We found no public access information, so anyone interested should ask the Forestry Commission before visiting.

Jason Johns nominated the tower, and the register records it as US 1611, MS 10, registered on June 23, 2022.1
