Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Hopewell Lookout Tower is in Itawamba County, Mississippi, on a site administered by the Mississippi Forestry Commission.1,2 The National Historic Lookout Register describes it as a 100-foot Aermotor tower, and Aermotor built its towers from galvanized steel.1,3 The register gives the site's elevation as 601 feet, or 183 meters.1

The register gives no build date and does not say who designed or erected the tower.1 It also names no one who staffed the tower and no fire it watched.1

The National Historic Lookout Register listed the tower on June 26, 2022, as US 1621, MS 14, on the nomination of Jason Johns.1 The Forest Lookouts index also places a Hopewell tower in Itawamba County, Mississippi.2

The sources we read do not say whether the tower still stands, or whether it has been moved, burned or taken down.1,2 The register's description also says the base could not be reached because of muddy conditions, and it gives no date for that.1 No access information is given, so anyone planning to see the tower should first ask the Mississippi Forestry Commission about the site.1
