Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Kincaid Lookout Tower is in Grenada County, Mississippi.1 The National Historic Lookout Register describes it as a 100-foot International Derrick tower, and gives the site's elevation as 490 feet, or 149 meters.1
The register gives no build date for the tower.1 The Forest Lookouts index lists a Grenada County tower under the name Gore Springs.2 Neither source links that entry to this tower, so we do not treat them as the same site.1,2 Neither source names a staff member or a fire the tower watched.1,2
The register lists the tower under the Kincaid name, recorded on July 19, 2022, as US 1685, MS 44, on the nomination of Jason Johns.1 The Mississippi Forestry Commission administers the site.1 The register's only site visit is noted as 2/5/22.1
The sources we read do not say whether the tower still stands, or whether it has been moved, burned or taken down.1,2 The register gives no access information.1 Anyone planning to see the site should first ask the Mississippi Forestry Commission, which administers it.1
