Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Leflore Lookout Tower is in Leflore County, Mississippi, in the Mississippi Delta.1 The National Historic Lookout Register describes it as a 120-foot Aermotor LS-40 on flat Delta land, and gives the site's elevation as 136 feet, or 41 meters.1

Aermotor built its towers from galvanized steel, and the LS-40 was one of the company's models.2 The register gives no build date and names no staff member or fire connected with the tower.1

The National Historic Lookout Register recorded the tower on July 9, 2023, as US 1737, MS 54, on the nomination of Jason Johns.1 The Mississippi Forestry Commission administers the site.1

OpenStreetMap has a point at nearly the same coordinates as the register. It is labeled Fire Tower and tagged as an observation tower.1,3 The register's name, Leflore Lookout Tower, is the one we use here.1

The register's only site visit is noted as 7/2/23.1 The sources we read do not say whether the tower still stands or has been moved, burned or taken down.1,3 The register gives no access information, and the OpenStreetMap entry lists no access details either.1,3 Anyone interested should contact the Mississippi Forestry Commission before visiting.1
