Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Louisville (Winston) Lookout Tower stands on the edge of the Tombigbee National Forest in Winston County, Mississippi.1

The Register describes it as a 100-foot Aermotor LS-40 and gives its elevation as 637 feet (194 meters).1

We did not find a build date, a builder, or any record of who staffed the tower. The Register lists the build date as unknown and names the Mississippi Forestry Commission as its administrator.1

The tower was registered on July 9, 2023, as US 1744, MS 61, after a site visit on July 8, 2023.1 The visit description uses the present tense, which suggests the tower was still standing then.1

The Register also notes that the Forestry Commission still has active offices at the same location.1 It does not say whether the public may visit or climb the tower, and we found no other source on that. Because a working agency office sits on the site, treat access as restricted and ask the Forestry Commission before going near it.1
