Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Mount Hebron Lookout Tower is in Monroe County, Mississippi, at an elevation of 457 feet (139 m), according to the National Historic Lookout Register.1 The Mississippi Forestry Commission is listed as its administrator.1

The register describes a 90-foot Aermotor tower with a parallel staircase. It has 13 landings and 14 flights, but its lowest flights have been taken away.1 The site description also notes that the Aermotor label was fitted upside down.1

The register lists the build date as unknown, and I found no other account of when the tower went up or who built it.1

The register entry is US 1680, MS 40. It was registered on July 18, 2022, with Jason Johns as nominator.1 The site visit it describes took place on July 17, 2022, and the page says the Forestry Commission no longer uses the site.1 I could not tell from the page when that changed.

I found no later report of the tower's condition or of public access. Since I could not find access details, do not assume the tower is open to visitors. Ask the Mississippi Forestry Commission before going, and do not climb it without permission.
