Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Pace Lookout Tower is in Bolivar County, Mississippi.1 The National Historic Lookout Register describes an Aermotor tower, 110 feet tall, whose stairs run straight up the inside, with 17 landings and 18 flights.1 It gives no build date and names the Mississippi Forestry Commission as the administering agency.1

The register lists the tower as US 1654, MS 20.1 It was registered on July 10, 2022, on the nomination of Jason Johns.1 The site visit on July 8, 2022 found that the first flight of stairs had been removed, and it noted that the Forestry Commission had vacated the site.1

Records of its history are thin. A Mississippi Secretary of State list of public lands includes the entry "Bolivar Fire Tower (Sold 8/11/2018)."2 The list does not tie that entry to this tower, so we cannot say whether they are the same structure.2

We found no later report on the tower's condition or access. Visitors should ask the Forestry Commission before going near the site, and should not climb it.
