Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The register lists the Shiloh Lookout Tower in Rankin County, Mississippi, as US 1660, MS 26.1 It is a 100-foot Aermotor tower, and the register gives no build date for it.1 OpenStreetMap maps the structure as a lattice tower.2

Inside, a straight staircase climbs through 14 landings and 15 flights.1 On a visit recorded as 7/9/22, the register found every stair still intact.1 The register does not name anyone who staffed the tower or any fire it watched.1

The register says the Mississippi Forestry Commission has vacated the site, but it does not say when that happened.1 We found no other published account of the tower's history.1

The register added the tower on July 10, 2022, and lists the forestry commission as its administrator.1 We found nothing about public access today, so please do not climb it.1 Ask the forestry commission before visiting the site.1
