View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.3 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Mississippi Forestry Commission put up a standard Aeromotor tower, 100 to 150 feet tall, in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, in the 1930s.1 It stood in the middle of a pasture, half a mile north of where Goodfood Road meets Toxish Road.1
Looking north from the site, the Pontotoc skyline could be seen 8.08 miles away at ground level, and at night the town's street lights and radio towers were visible.1 The register lists it as US 694, MS 1 and records its listing on October 19, 2010, nominated by Danny White.1
The register describes the tower in the past tense, so it appears to be gone.1 It does not say what, if anything, remains in the pasture today or whether the land is open to visitors.
