Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Wren Lookout Tower stands in Monroe County, Mississippi, and is administered by the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC).1 The register describes a 100-foot Aermotor tower with a parallel staircase, at an elevation of 366 feet (112 meters).1 It lists the build year as unknown.1
The register dates the tower's registration to July 18, 2022, as US 1681, MS 41, on the nomination of Jason Johns.1 The Wikipedia article on the community of Wren says the tower has a listing with the National Historic Lookout Register.2 The Forest Lookouts website has a Wren page, but the text we could read there gives no history or details.3
Fire towers were the main way to pin down a forest fire's location before technology took over, and the MFC retains many of its towers across the state.4 That is general context, not a record of this tower. The sources we read do not name anyone who staffed the Wren tower or any fire it watched.
The register's site-visit note says the roof is missing.1 The visit date is written as 7/77/22, which is not a real date, so we cannot say exactly when the visit happened.
The register does not say whether the site is open to visitors today. Its only note on the tower's condition is the missing roof, so do not climb it, and ask the MFC before visiting.
