Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Yazoo Lookout Tower is in Yazoo County, Mississippi, and the register gives its elevation as 386 feet (118 meters).1 The Mississippi Forestry Commission administers the site.1 The register describes a 100-foot Aermotor LS-40 tower, and OpenStreetMap tags the structure as an observation tower with lattice construction.1,2

The register lists the build date as unknown.1 I found no source that says who erected the tower or when, and none that records staffing or notable fires.

The site is registered as US 1733, MS 50, with a registration date of July 5, 2023.1 The register gives a site visit date of July 2, 2023. Its description says the Commission still maintains the site, which also holds the original work shed and a small office or residence.1

That description suggests the tower may still stand, though no source says so directly.1 The register says nothing about public access, so this story makes no claim about visiting. Please ask the Mississippi Forestry Commission before going, and do not climb the tower.
