View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Downloads about 4.0 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Anderson Peak is a lookout site in Judith Basin County, about nine miles north-northeast of Neihart, at an elevation of 7,687 feet.1 The Lewis & Clark National Forest is listed as its agency, and a Forest Lookouts page gives its location code as 15N-9E-17.1,2

Firelookout.com describes a 50-foot pole tower of the type it calls L-4, dated to 1935.1

The sources disagree about how the tower ended.1,2 Firelookout.com says it was destroyed in 1968.1 A Forest Lookouts page lists it as removed.2 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Montana list marks it gone and lists its coordinates as 47.06590 north and 110.60412 west.3

No source describes what, if anything, remains on the peak today, and none says whether the public can reach it.
