View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Dutch Hill was a lookout about three miles west of Corvallis, in Ravalli County, on the Bitterroot National Forest.1 Firelookout.com describes a 20-foot pole tower with an L-4 cab, dated 1933 and set in an orchard.1
A May 1931 Ravalli Republican item, quoted on the Forest Lookouts Montana page, reports a new 20-foot lookout on Kress Point near Hamilton.2 That item never names Dutch Hill, so it may describe a different station.2
The cab was moved to Antrim Point.1,2 Both firelookout.com and the Forest Lookouts page give 1940 for the move.1,2 The firelookout.com Antrim Point page instead says that lookout was established in 1939 with the cab from Dutch Hill, and another Forest Lookouts page dates the Antrim Point site to 1937.3,4
In 1968 an R-6 cab replaced the L-4 cab at Antrim Point.3 That R-6 cab later moved to Lookout Mountain, also on the Bitterroot.3,5 The dates for that move differ. The Antrim page puts it five years after the 1968 replacement, the Forest Lookouts page says lookout duties moved in 1973, and the National Historic Lookout Register gives 1974.3,4,5 The register says the Lookout Mountain lookout is staffed routinely each fire season, and firelookout.com says the cab stands there today.3,5
