View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.

Downloads about 3.6 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Harvey Point is a lookout site in Granite County, on the Lolo National Forest.1,2 Firelookout.com lists a 20-foot pole L-4 tower there, built in 1934.1 The L-4 was a prefabricated 14-by-14-foot lookout house, built from 1929 on.3

In 1949 the cab was moved to the northeast quarter of section 25, township 10 north, range 5 west, where it became a maintenance cabin.1 The Forest Lookouts Granite County list places the Harvey Point entry at township 10 north, range 14 west, section 17.2 The two township and range figures appear to describe the tower site and the cab's later site, but the sources do not say so outright.1,2

The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists Harvey Point as a gone tower.4

Sources do not say whether the moved maintenance cabin still stands, and none describes what remains at the tower site. No source describes the site today, so a visitor should not count on finding anything there or on access.
