View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.9 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Henderson Hill was a fire lookout on the Lolo National Forest, 11 miles northwest of St. Regis in Mineral County, Montana.1 It was an L-4 tower, built in 1937 on the northwest end of a ridge.1 The page gives the site's elevation as 4,335 feet.1 The association's list places it at 47.376 N, 115.321 W.2
The tower was destroyed in 1962.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Montana list still marks the site as gone.2 A separate lookout, Cameron Peak, also in Mineral County, was another L-4 tower destroyed in 1962.3
No source I read describes what, if anything, remains at the site today, or whether the public can visit it. Check with the Lolo National Forest before going out to look for it.
