View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 4.0 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Keno Mountain's tower stood in the Kootenai National Forest, about 15 miles west of Yaak, in Lincoln County, Montana.1 The page gives its elevation as 6,542 feet.1
The firelookout.com page says it was built in 1936 as a 45-foot pole tower with an L-4 cab.1 L-4 is the name for a 14-by-14-foot frame cab that a lookout could live in, and the register notes these cabs could be placed on top of tall fire towers.2
The page leaves the end date open with a question mark, and says the tower has long since disappeared.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Montana list also marks it as a gone tower.3
We found no source that describes what, if anything, remains at the site today, or whether visitors may go there.
