Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Teepee Point Lookout sits in Ravalli County, Montana, about 21 miles southeast of Darby, at 6,625 feet.1 The Bitterroot National Forest manages it.1

The current lookout went up in 1984 to replace McCart Lookout.1,2 It is a two-story gabled cab, and the Forest Lookouts page calls its plan a modified R-6 design.1,2 The same page says McCart's lookout duties passed to this site.2

The lookout is manned every summer.1 Firelookout.com lists known lookout personnel for 1989, 1998 and 2007.1 We found no fire history or closure for the site in the pages we read.

The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists the lookout as standing, with a two-story cab.3

We found no access information for the site and no rental listing for it. Anyone planning a visit should check with the Bitterroot National Forest first.
