View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Teeters Peak carried a 50-foot pole tower with an 8-by-8-foot cab, and a listing dates the tower to 1934.1 The listing also mentions L-4 cab quarters.1 The Forest Service describes the L-4, also called an "Aladdin," as a 14-by-14-foot pre-cut house, produced between 1929 and 1953. It has a peaked roof, with wooden panels set horizontally over the windows.2

The peak sits in Lincoln County, 22 miles south-southeast of Libby, on the Kootenai National Forest.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists it as a tower that is gone.3 The listing says the tower was destroyed in 1960.1

The sources do not fully agree. A 1966 topographic map reprint, as described by the seller Pastmaps, shows a pack trail to Teeters Peak.4 The seller also describes a lookout tower on the peak, in that mid-1960s terrain, as useful for fire management.4 If the tower stood then, that conflicts with the listing's 1960 date.
