Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Yogo Peak lookout was a 40-foot pole tower of the L-4 type, built in 1936 in Judith Basin County, Montana.1 It stood about eight miles east of Neihart, on the Lewis and Clark National Forest, and the page gives the peak's elevation as 8,846 feet.1,2

The firelookout.com page says the tower was demolished in 1970, after standing on the peak since 1936.1 The Forest Lookouts Yogo Peak page marks it as removed.2 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Montana list shows the tower as gone, at coordinates 46.92745, -110.54249.3

No source we read describes what, if anything, remains at the peak today, or whether the site is open to visitors. Anyone thinking of going up should check with the national forest first.
