Story
Researched 8 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Greystone Station stands on Union Hill in Denville, Morris County.1 Among the fire towers in northern New Jersey, the registry says this one is the tallest.2
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service built the tower in 1937.2 Its upper part, a 47-foot section with a 7-by-7-foot metal cab, came from an older Edison fire tower from the 1920s. The Aermotor Co. provided an extended base, which lifted the rebuilt structure to 92 feet.2 Wikipedia's state list gives the height as 92 feet (28 meters) and the elevation as 909 feet.1
The registry says the tower remains in active service, and it recorded the site on March 3, 2004.2 The sources do not describe staffing hours, notable fires or visiting rules, so contact the Forest Fire Service before planning a trip.
