View from the cab

What you see from the cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

Downloads about 3.1 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 8 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The National Historic Lookout Register lists Isleta Lookout, also called Isleta (Manzanita), in Torrance County, New Mexico.1,2 The register gives no construction date for the tower.1

The tower is an Aermotor 7x7 cab used for observation only, set on a 50-foot open steel tower.1 The site also has a residence cabin inside a fenced enclosure.1 The register lists the Isleta-Acoma Indian Agency as the administering office.1

Brad Eells nominated the lookout, and the register recorded it on July 7, 2022, as US 1650, NM 49.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's New Mexico list shows the tower as standing.2

The register places the site on the Isleta-Acoma Indian Reservation.1 I found no staffing history, no list of fires it watched and no visitor information, so anyone interested in the site should check with the reservation's tribal government before planning a trip.
