View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Anderson Mountain rises about seven miles east of Myrtle Point, in Coos County, Oregon, at roughly 1,401 feet.1,2
The Coos Bay Times reported in July 1929 that the primary lookout station near Bridge had been completed that spring.3 An April 1929 item had said a lookout would be erected on the mountain that summer.3 In 1933 a crew of 20 men was building a 60-foot tower there, and a September 1933 report gave each lookout a height of 60 feet, with a cabin on top.3 The register and firelookout.com instead describe a 40-foot pole L-4 tower built in 1933.1,2 The sources disagree on the height.
The papers name a few of the people who worked the station. Lloyd Jarvis was the lookout in 1935.3 Bob King worked the station in the 1937 fire season and was assigned there again in 1938.3 In 1941 William Huff left his job at Albany to report for duty, then faced a two-mile climb uphill to his summer post.3
In July 1955 the Coos Bay Times reported that the station had been abandoned because the tower's timbers were rotting.3 The register says the tower was removed in 1956, and firelookout.com says it was destroyed that year.1,2
