View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The lookout stood on Noti Peak in Lane County, Oregon.1,2 The Former Fire Lookout Sites register files it as Badger (Noti) Mountain and lists the Western Lane FPA as its administrator.1
A February 1938 Forest Log item said a new lookout would go up on Noti Peak once the road was finished, and that the tower was to be 40 feet.2 Building began that September on a 24-foot pole-leg tower with a standard 14-by-14 cabin.2 The page credits CCC Camp P-219 with 766 man-days of work and gives a total cost of $1,471.17 from the investment record it cites.2 The state's 1938 annual report also records a road and telephone line built to the lookout that year.2
The register and firelookout.com do not agree with that account. Both describe a 30-foot L-4 tower built in 1939, and the register calls it live-in.1,3 We could not reconcile the 1938 start, the 24-foot height and the 1939 date from these pages alone.1,2,3
Upkeep included a radio repeater building in 1956, which cost $1,127.17, and new tower legs and a stairway in 1957.2
The lookout was abandoned in 1965.1,2,3 By 1980 the register and firelookout.com both list it as gone, and Forest Lookouts ends its entry with the single word "Removed."1,2,3
We found no source that describes what, if anything, is still standing on the site, and none says whether the public may visit it. Our record lists access as unknown, so treat the site as closed and ask the Western Lane FPA before going near it.
