View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Green Point is a summit in Lincoln County, Oregon, about seven miles northeast of Lincoln City, inside the Siuslaw National Forest.1,2
A crow's nest lookout went up on the summit in 1933.1 In 1939 a Civilian Conservation Corps crew built a 53-foot pole tower of the register's L-4 type, along with a garage.1,3 A January 1940 Eugene Guard item, quoted by the Forest Lookouts site, said the new house and tower would add fire protection near Neskowin.3
In 1942 the lookout saw brief wartime use for aircraft surveillance.1 The Forest Lookouts site gives an activation date of August 3, 1942, for the Portland Filter Center.3
The register and firelookout.com both say a windstorm destroyed the tower in 1951.1,2 The Forest Lookouts history ends with the single word "Removed" and gives no date.3 The sources differ on how the tower came down, so we report the windstorm and note the one-word entry.1,2,3
The register says a laddered tree from the crow's nest lookout is still there.1 None of the sources we read describes the rest of the site, or says whether the public may visit it.1,2,3
