View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.7 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Ingram Point stands at 5,714 feet in Crook County, Oregon, in the Ochoco National Forest, and the U.S. Forest Service administered the site.1
Before 1933 the point was called Tamarack.2 A Crook County Journal item from July 1920 says the Forest Service planned a platform there, and an August 1920 item reports a lookout platform being erected on Tamarack.2 The register and the Forest Fire Lookout Association date a crow's nest on the point to 1926.1,3
Between 1920 and 1929, Forest Lookouts names Wayne Adamson, Norman Harrison, Ray Glasgow, Sam Warg and Paul Whiteis among those who held the post.2 A Central Oregonian item says a forestry student had occupied the point for several seasons before Whiteis was hired in 1929.2
In 1927 the lookout reported only one fire that season.2 The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists Jeanette Searles as lookout personnel in 1952.3
In 1933 the U.S. geographic board chose the name Ingram Point instead of Tamarack, honoring the late Assistant Regional Forester Ingram, according to a Central Oregonian item quoted by Forest Lookouts.2
The register says the name honors Douglas C. Ingram, a victim of the 1929 Camas Fire near Chelan, Washington.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association says the same.3 The sources disagree on his role at the site. The register says he was responsible for building the original lookout but never staffed it.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association calls him the site's first lookout,3 and the 1933 newspaper says he first used the point as a lookout.2
A 1933 Central Oregonian item reports that a 65-foot tower was being built on Tamarack Point that August.2 The register and the Forest Fire Lookout Association instead describe a 1934 replacement: a 50-foot wooden L-6 tower with a cabin.1,3
Both the register and the Forest Fire Lookout Association say the lookout came down in the 1960s.1,3 The register says it was removed,1 and the association says it was destroyed.3
Komoot now lists Ingram Point as a viewpoint and says it sits in a protected area.4 The register includes a photo of the site captioned for 2005, but the caption does not describe what remains.1 No source we read says what, if anything, still stands at the summit.
