View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.6 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
The Umpqua National Forest site lies in Douglas County, at 3,362 feet, on the northwest edge of a long summit ridge.1
A September 14, 1933 Roseburg Chieftain item said the Civilian Conservation Corps planned to build a 10-by-10 lookout ahead of the snowfall.2 The Oregon page describes the cabin as a 10-by-10 Aladdin L-5 erected on a 10-foot round fir timber tower and anchored by cables.2
The register and firelookout.com both date the tower to 1933 and call it a 10-foot pole L-4 tower, so the sources differ on the design.1,3 The register says it was removed in 1965, and firelookout.com says it was destroyed that year.1,3 The Oregon page says only that it was removed.2
firelookout.org's county list marks the site as gone.4 I found no source that describes what remains at the summit today, or whether the public can reach it.
