View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Mount June stands in the Umpqua National Forest in Lane County, Oregon.1,2 Its first lookout was a 50-foot pole platform, put up in the 1920s.1,2 Newspapers in late 1925 said the peak would probably become a forest fire lookout point.3 A cabin went up in 1934, and in 1949 a 30-foot wooden tower with an L-4 cab replaced the cabin quarters.1,2,3,4 The Forest Service's trail page says the tower that replaced the pole platform was 50 feet tall, so the height is one point where the sources disagree.5
In August 1962 the News-Review, quoted on the Oregon lookouts page, classed June Mountain as an emergency station.3
The tower came down in 1967.1,2,3 The register and the Oregon lookouts page say it was removed, while firelookout.com says it was destroyed.1,2,3 A hiking group gives the reasons as better fire detection and shrinking maintenance budgets.4
The Forest Service's Mount June Trail climbs to the summit and links to the Sawtooth Trail.5 The agency says the structures were abandoned and destroyed, but a stone base is still on the summit, and visitors stand on those ruins when they get there.5 The route is a hiking trail on national forest land, so the summit is reached on foot, and no tower is left to climb.5
