View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.

Downloads about 3.9 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Lamb Butte lies in Lane County, about eight miles southeast of McKenzie Bridge, within the Willamette National Forest.1

A firefinder went up on the butte in 1930.1,2 A lookout cab followed in 1933.1,2,3 The sources disagree on the design. The register and firelookout.com call the 1933 cab an L-6, while a lookout history site calls it an L-5 ground house, 10 by 10.1,2,3 The house sat on top of the butte.3

A September 1934 Eugene Register-Guard item, quoted by the history site, reports that a strong wind blew the shutters off the house.3

The register and firelookout.com say the cab was gone by 1959.1,2 The history site says the lookout was removed in the 1950s.3

No source I found describes what, if anything, remains on the butte today, or whether the summit is open to visitors.
