View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.6 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Mount Hagen, also spelled Hagan, is in the Willamette National Forest, about 12 miles west of McKenzie Bridge in Lane County, Oregon.1,2,3 The register lists the U.S. Forest Service as the administrator.1 The first lookout, dated to 1933, combined a tree platform with an L-5 cab set on the ground for living quarters.1,2 A September 1933 item from the Eugene Guard, quoted by the Forest Lookouts history, says a crew was then building a trail to the peak and a lookout house on it.3
In 1953, eight miles of road replaced the old walk-in trail to the lookout.3 The cab was replaced in 1955 by a tower.1,2,3 The sources disagree on its height. The register and firelookout.com give 25 feet, while the Forest Lookouts history gives 24 feet.1,2,3
The register says the tower was gone by 1979. The Forest Lookouts history says it was dismantled and salvaged that year.1,3 The firelookout.com heading gives the lookout's dates as 1933 to 1955, but the same page says the tower was gone by 1979.2
The register added the site on May 7, 2011, as US 960, OR 318.1 We found no source that describes what, if anything, remains at the site today, or whether the public can reach it.
